Visa fees for all visa categories have been waived for the period of 5th March to 4th June 2009 in an effort to increase the number of tourists to the country.  The visa fee waiver is applicable to all visas with a duration not longer than 90 days.

The announcement was made to a group of four hundred foreign media and agents who were attending this weeks mega fam trips seminar.

It is hoped that the waiver will encourage more Chinese tourists, who typically travel during Thai New Year, Songkran Festival and China's May Day celebrations.  It should also encourage Japanese tourists travelling during Golden Week in late April and early May.

The government also approved a visa exemption for transit passengers passing through Suvarnabhumi Airport. This allows travellers to enjoy a short visit to downtown Bangkok for shopping without impacting on visa regulations.

Other incentives include a 20% reduction in landing fees at Thailand's airports and a parking fee waiver which is effective for the next eight months.

The Thai Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejajiva, also confirmed during the briefing that entry fees for all national parks throughout the country would be cut by 50% for both Thai and foreign visitors.
